More Baptisms in June
Kalob and his companion are leading the district in bringing investigators to church. They had their first baptism last week with the rest of the family being baptised in June.
April 9, 2013 Letter from Sister Lynda Dyer
Dear Family of Elder Stevenson,
I often think as I look out over the missionaries, "I wish their parents could see through my eyes, what I am able to see." Since that is not possible, I would like to try to describe a little of what I saw and experienced this last Sunday morning before the first session of Conference.
The President and I have the responsibility of serving breakfast on Sunday mornings when we are not fasting. That allows our kitchen staff to attend their wards. The meal is simple: cold cereal, rolls, and fruit. When we arrived at the kitchen however, we found that it was not as clean as it should have been. Tables needed to be wiped off, trays and silverware needed to be cleaned. Without any requests on our part, a group of Elders appeared offering to help. I was trying to rinse off trays and one Elder said I'm an expert at that, that is what I have been doing for two years at Cafe Rio. He quickly took over and started directing others in the project of washing and drying. Others were out front wiping off tables and sweeping the floors. After everyone was finished eating, they were back to repeat the process of washing, drying, sweeping, and wiping off. I'm not sure the kitchen has ever been so clean!
The thing that touch the hearts of the President and myself the most was the fact that they had come all on their own, with a genuine desire to serve. No one had to ask them for help. Then to make the experience even more sweet, they were joyfully singing hymns and Primary songs as they worked. As they sang "We are as the Army of Helaman" we knew truer words had never been spoken or sung!
Elder Stevenson was a part of that heavenly army. We love him! Thank you for entrusting him to us for this short period of time. We sent him off early, early this morning for Cali. He was excited and ready to go. He is going to be a great missionary! He went out tracting the other day and had amazing success. We know that was just a sample of what is yet to come for him! You have a wonderful son!

Letter from Hermana Prince
We are excited to be serving the Lord here in the Colombia Cali Mission with Elder Stevenson. He arrived in a world completely different than his own tired but ready to work. After having an interview and training with President Prince , he has now gone off to his first area, Centro II in Ipiales (it is COLD there!), with his companion, Elder Rojas, who is from Peru.
I have attached a picture so you can see that he actually did make it!

Visit from Elder David A. Bednar
The city of Cali was blessed this past weekend with a special visitor.
Elder David A. Bednar, an apostle and special witness of Jesus Christ,
came to speak to our missionaries and the members of Cali.
He was accompanied by (left to right)
Elder Craig C. Christensen, 1st Quorum of the Seventy,
Elder Abraham Querro, Area Seventy,
Elder Hernando Camargo, Area Seventy,
and
Elder Rafael Pino, 1st Quorum of the Seventy and President of the South America Northwest Area.
Words are not adequate to describe the gentle kindness,
powerful teachings, loving acceptance, and the tangible spirit
that were felt in our hearts and lives from this visit.

These were TIRED missionaries! and the day was still not over!
They finished there day with a pizza dinner and then attended a baptismal service.

The Power of Prayer: Coffee Growers Strike
As seen in my last posts, the coffee and trucker strikes
have been headline news in Colombia.
We are blessed to have the gospel...we believe that the Lord hears the prayers of those praying for their missionaries. No pictures in this post...but I wanted to share the following emails that have warmed our hearts and increased our faith.
Dear Hermana Prince...
I belong to a wonderful Missionary Mom site for our Colombia missionaries (including all our Cali Missionaries). We have been communicating today about your situation with all the strikes going on.
I wanted to let you know that we are all praying together for you all to be safe, protected and well, for peace and for the strikes to end.
We are all holding a Fast tomorrow together for you all. We are also putting yours and Pres. Prince's names and your mission on the temple prayer rolls.
This night we learned that they lifted the truckers stike and opened the road to Buenaventura.

Dear Hermana Prince,
I just wanted you to know that we (all parents of your missionaries, our familes and friends) Fasted and Prayed together for you all yesterday. We also put your names (the temples let us put Colombia Cali Mission and you and Pres. Prince) on temple prayer rolls around the world, including some in South America. We had and still have faith together that Heavenly Father will bless you all with safety, well being and a peaceful strike settlement soon - we will keep praying and having faith!
We love you all!
This night we learned that the coffee strikers and government came to an agreement and will move the blockades on the roads....The strike is over.
Colombia news reports:
"Never in the history of coffee has there been an agreement like this," said the Minister of Agriculture Juan Camilo Restrepo.
I like to believe that they have NO IDEA how powerful missionary moms and prayer can be.
"...they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them....We do not doubt our mothers knew it." Alma 56:47-48
A side note:
We did evacuate 20 missionaries from Popayán over the course of Thursday and Friday. They were flown into Cali via Bogotá...a fun adventure for them. We now have them working hard in Cali and waiting a few days until we move everyone back. Buses are started to move from our Southern cities.
It looks like transfers will happen on Wednesday...only 2 weeks late!!
